Question:
What’s 11.1 Gb/s testing all about?

Answer:
The emerging telecom rate of 11.1 Gb/s is used in Optical Packet Networking, also known as Next Generation Networking & Connection Oriented Ethernet. It is basically G.709 on 10GbE, the same idea as the 10.71 Gb/s digital wrapper on 9.95 Gb/s SONET/SDH. A similar approach is also applied to 10x Fibre Channel to give 11.3 Gb/s. Both require jitter generation testing in the same way that traditional SONET has always stipulated, and can easily be measured using the BERTScope DCRj at any rate to 12.5 Gb/s.

Q: If you should grab a ‘live’ wire that passes about 25 milliamps through your hand, you probably won’t be able to release the wire. Why not?
